Dr. Tontra P. Lowe

Dr. Tontra P. Lowe was born in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and grew up in North Courtland, Alabama. She was always a great student, independent thinker and well-liked by her teachers and classmates. She graduated at the top of her class in 1989 and accepted an academic scholarship to Alabama A&M University. In 1993, she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Food Science and Technology. While at A&M, she was named to the Dean's List on numerous occasions, was named Freshman of the Year for the Department of Food Science and elected Ms. ROTC by the student body.

After graduating from A&M, she was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the active Army. Dr. Lowe served for six years on active status, being stationed in Korea, Maryland, Virginia, Texas and finally Alabama before deciding to exit from active duty to pursue a career in dentistry.

Dr. Lowe received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in 2005. While there, she held many leadership positions and won several awards. Upon graduation, she completed a general practice residency at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine and accepted a dental position in West Virginia. Dr. Lowe moved back to the Northern Virginia area and joined Ackerman and Associates dental practice. She has taken many additional hours of study in sedation dentistry to provide the most serene and comfortable environment possible to assist her patients. Dr. Lowe is a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS) and maintains her proficiency in all aspects of dentistry through continuing education.

She currently resides in Warrenton, Virginia, a short distance from Washington, D.C., with her husband, James, and two sons, 8-year-old Malcolm, and 11-year-old Malik. She holds the rank of Major in the District of Columbia Army National Guard.
